For those interested in the skateboarding world there really hasnt been much attention with mixing it in the high definition world. It would seem more costly and difficult to cross the two, but Blu-ray is coming into its own and high definition is making a clear statement that its the future (or even the now). Enter Nikes Debacle! A short Blu-ray skate video of Nikes Skate Team. This disc was originally available only with the purchase of a pair of $100 Nike Debacle Shoes and now can be found on eBay.
Debacle is a short, twenty-three minute video featuring six skateboarders who are all sporting the same kicks. Skating the city parks, skate parks, sidewalks, pools, stairs, and vehicles (yes, vehicles), these skaters take it to a new level all in high definition. Starting with a quick mix of skate tricks from the whole crew, Debacle carries into individual sets of each of the six starting with Daryl Angel. As impressive as Angel is, the most impressive skater is the second one to be solo and that is David Clark. The others follow in like fashion and simple tricks all the way to the few that make the jaws drop ensue.
Debacle is nicely put together and rather entertaining, especially for those interested in skateboarding. Jason Hernandez was in charge of bringing this all together for promotional purposes and he does a great job of showcasing the skateboarders as well as the shoes that are being marketed. Direction is good, and the skateboarders really get a chance to act themselves and have a little fun attempting to act a few scenes out. The tricks are even nicer, as there are the basic grinds, wall-rides and kick flips all the way to riding half-pipe on a sculpture at least fifteen feet in the air to three of these guys skating intertwined in a near empty swimming pool.
Debacle is short and simple so there really isnt much to say about it. The filming is nicely done and the skating is professional. Those who do these tricks, or in my case try to do these tricks should find a bit of entertainment value in this set and anybody else might find the value in the fact the set was a limited release and should eventually be hard to find.
